You could probably try a few guesses and find the answer by trial-and-error. But if you want to solve it using algebra, here's how I did it: using the letter Y to represent the Uncle's age, the equation is, Y = 20 + 0.5Y Verbally, this is saying that the Uncle's age, Y, is equal to 20 (the nephew/niece's age) plus half the Uncle's age, or 0.5Y.Solving for Y, the equation becomes: 0.5Y = 20 Which means, Y = 40! So the Uncle is 40 years old!
