20 Fun Facts About Lego

HI, LEGOMAN HERE!

Lego is such a popular building brick these days! People make sculptures, program robots, and produce stop animation with Legos! Even here at smellityet.com, we post about Lego! I thought it would be cool to post 20 fun facts about Lego. :)

1. The Lego company began 1934, when a former carpenter, Ole Kirk Christiansen, built wooden toys. Plastic bricks weren't started in the Lego company until 1940.

3. Lego came from the Danish word leg got, which means, "Play well".

4. There are so many Lego's produced, that it is estimated that the total number is enough for every child in the world to have 52 Lego's each.

5. The record for the biggest Lego castle built is around 400,000 bricks.


6. If there was a column that was built with 40,000,000,000 bricks, it would reach the moon.

8. During 2010 Soccer World Cup, many people made Lego stop-animations of reenactments.

9. The highest Lego tower is in Japan. It consists of 430,000 bricks.

10. 8 rectangular 8-stud bricks can be put in over 100 million combinations.

11. There are a total of 44 Lego stores in the world.

12. An official league for young minds was formed for the Mindstorms Lego sets, called the FLL. (First Lego League) Elementary and middle school students compete by programming a Lego robot to do tasks.

13. The first three Lego types of sets were town, space, and pirates.

14. There are many hardcore Lego builders who have their own mini-cities from sets put together.

15. The only Lego amusement park in the US is in California.


16. Many video games have been made in the "Lego style". This includes Lego Starwars, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Battles, Lego Rockband, and Lego Harry Potter.



17. Worn out molds of Lego bricks are encased in building foundations.

18. Lego bricks are molded at a pressure of about 50 tons.

19. Almost all of the waste from the factories are recycled. The parts that cannot be recycled or molded to brick are sold to other companies.
