Quartz blocks, redstone blocks, daylight sensors, trapped chests, weighted pressure plates... no wonder version 1.5 for Minecraft is known as the "Redstone Update." A few pictures follow; each has something from the new update.

The best part of the update is the addition of hoppers: special blocks that collect items dropped into them. This allows for complete automation of many contraptions that previously required one to collect the items in their inventory. For example, the drops of mob grinders, egg machines, and piston-melon farms can go directly to a chest! Chest full? Increase the storage by creating a chain of hoppers and chests all the way down to bedrock.
The Redstone Update should be renamed to the Industrial Revolution! Or, "Redstone Revolution!"
